Keynote Speaker: Erin Mahone

Author, Speaker, Facilitator, Producer, Mental Health Advocate

Erin Mahone is an author, speaker, facilitator, and podcaster. She creates space for difficult conversations about mental health in all areas of life. Growing-up in a family in which severe mental illness was a reality, and experiencing the lifelong effects of anxiety disorder and depression, Erin has learned to face life’s challenges with humor, creativity, and humility.

Through this lifelong training, formal education in social and behavioral sciences, and extensive work as a performing artist, an author, mental health professional, and creator of inclusive programming, Erin has developed unique and effective skills in opening dialogue, and helping diverse audiences get comfortable with the discomfort traditionally associated with conversations about mental health and related issues.

Erin is the author of the book If You Could See Me: Life, Motherhood, and the Pursuit of Sanity (Motivational Press, 2018). She is the creator of #IfYouCouldSeeMe a multi-media storytelling project, which includes live events, a podcast on the Mental Health News Radio Network, an open submission blog, and more - designed to change the way we talk about, think about, and address mental health and related issues. Erin leads ReStory, a personal narrative coaching initiative, and she is creator of two one-woman shows, It Runs in the Family a collection of songs and stories about laughter, family, mental illness, and unconditional love; and her new show Shark Woman Meditates, an honest look into her own mental health journey.

Erin recently completed her master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Longwood University focusing on Narrative Therapy and it’s effectiveness in the treatment of complex trauma. She is a TEDx presenter and speaks frequently on the intersection of creativity, compassion, and change. She lives in Virginia with her husband, three children, and a furbaby named Kismet.
